2018 Upcoming Events and Services! It’s hard to believe that the Lenten Season is upon already! Once again, the Deacons will be sponsoring a Soup Supper; this year, we’re asking the congregation for help in providing soup each time (so, please pull out your fave recipes to add to the feast! No favorite soup? Come anyway!) Beginning Ash Wednesday, which is Feb. 14th, we’ll begin with fellowship around our soup supper, followed by a short, simple traditional service with the imposition of ashes for those who choose to receive them and Communion. On Wed., Feb. 28th and Mar. 14th, our soup supper will be followed by simple, reflective Taize-style worship services, about 30 minutes in length. Our final soup supper will be during Holy Week, Maundy Thurs., Mar. 29th, followed by a short, traditional Tenebrae Service with Communion and offering the washing of feet or hands for those who choose to participate. Taize services originated in a religious community in Taize, France which has attracted people—young and old—from around the world to renew and deepen faith. It’s a simple, reflective style which includes prayer, silence for reflection, scripture, candle light and special music with very easy to learn but deeply moving songs. The Season of Lent, at its heart, is to allow us to look deep within ourselves to reflect on our lives and faith, deepening our connection to the Holy One according to our Christian faith.
Thurs., Mar. 29: Soup Supper 6-6:45pm; Tenebrae Worship Service with Communion and foot (or hand) washing 6:45pm. Palm Sunday: Church service with a Children’s message on March 25th at 9:30 a.m. Easter Sunday: Church service with Communion and a Children’s message on April 1st at 9:30 a.m. Followed by a balloon release!
